RESOURCES
Self care is fundamental to NVR and something we spend a lot of time exploring, and coming back to. Self care is sometimes about giving ourselves what we need in the moment - a five minute rest with a cup of tea with our favourite biscuit. It's also about a balanced life - staying physically and emotionally healthy, living with purpose and passion, staying connected to who we are, and having fun. We've included some information on secondary trauma and compassion fatigue - to help you know that you're not alone if this is where you're at, and to emphasise why self care is important when we're parenting children with high care needs. And we've included some grounding resources - for those times where things get overwhelming and you need some help to reconnect with yourself fairly quickly (these are best practised when we're calm and connected to ourselves so that they're available when we really need them).
THE COLOURS OF NOISE
White noise is made up of all the frequencies of sound audible to the human ear, in equal distribution. Blue noise is more intense at the higher frequencies while pink and brown noise are more intense at the lower frequencies, with brown people deeper than pink. Some people find that listening to specific frequencies of ambient sounds can have a profound affect on their nervous systems - reducing anxiety, dulling racing minds, helping us to fall asleep more easily, and to stay asleep, and helping us to focus better. This may be another tool in the toolkit for taking care of ourselves when we're feeling overwhelmed and need help to get back to a place of calm.
